Swiss Roadmap for Research Infrastructures 2023
The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is re-viewing the Swiss Roadmap for Research Infrastructures. The Roadmap is used to register newly planned research infrastructures or major upgrades of existing research infrastructures of national importance. It serves as a basis for the preparation of the ERI Dispatch 2025-2028.
The need for efficient and accessible research infrastructures is growing in all scientific disciplines. Largescale projects of national or international importance require medium- to long-term planning to ensure that the limited financial resources are used as efficiently and effectively as possible, and to optimally position Swiss science and innovation.
In a first step, swissuniversities and the ETH Board selected research infrastructure projects of national and international importance in areas within their remit. The SERI mandated the SNSF to perform the scientific evaluation of the shortlisted projects.
Based on the results of the SNSF evaluation process, swissuniversities and the ETH Board will perform an in-depth assessment of the projects’ feasibility and financial viability. The Swiss Confederation is responsible for funding deci-sions in the context of the ERI Dispatch 2025-2028.
