Projects on health and wellbeing – new funding scheme

Health is a topic of great importance to Swiss society. The SNSF will now support research on this topic at universities of applied sciences (UAS) and universities of teacher education (UTE) for a limited period, in line with its Multi-Year Programme 2021-2024. “This will provide additional funding opportunities for promising projects on health and wellbeing,” says Simona Berardi Vilei, Head of Projects. “Our general aim is to strengthen research at universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education, thus making the Swiss research landscape more diverse.”

From care for the very old to promoting health in schools

The researchers themselves will propose the topics. As Simona Berardi Vilei says: “There is a huge range of possibilities, from projects on care for the elderly or measures to prevent health insurance premiums from rising through to health promotion in schools.”

15 million francs for the first call

The SNSF will launch the first call for proposals in January 2023, with a budget of CHF 15 million. A second call for projects is planned for 2024.

This funding scheme is subject to the same conditions as the SNSF’s project funding. Applications may be submitted by researchers who conduct their work independently, under their own responsibility and with self-chosen goals. Detailed information can be found on the webpage and in the call document. The submission deadline is 1 May 2023; pre-registration is required by 15 January 2023 (see box).
