SNSF Research Council: 2 new presidents and 13 new members elected
As of January 2020, Dimos Poulikakos will be president of the Programmes division of the National Research Council. Matthias Peter will assume the presidency of the Biology and Medicine division in April 2020.
The National Research Council of the SNSF is responsible for the evaluation of research proposals and for funding decisions. It is composed of up to 100 members at any one time, all of whom are leading researchers in their field. They are elected by the Executive Committee of the Foundation Council of the SNSF.
The new divisional presidents are:
- Dimos Poulikakos, ETH Zurich, as president of the Programmes division and successor to Katharina Fromm (University of Fribourg); takes up office on 1 January 2020
- Matthias Peter, ETH Zurich, as president of the Biology and Medicine division and successor to Hugues Abriel (University of Bern); takes up office on 1 April 2020
The new members are:
Humanities and Social Sciences division
- Julia Gelshorn, University of Fribourg, for art history (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Gabriele Rippl, University of Bern, for literary studies (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Daniel Gredig, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, for social work (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Ben Jann, University of Bern, for sociology (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Dominic Rohner, University of Lausanne, for economics (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Thomas Keil, University of Zurich, for management (takes up office on 1 April 2020)
They replace the outgoing members Dario Gamboni (art history), Sabine Schneider (literary studies), Claudio Bolzman (social work), Jörg Rössel (sociology) Paul Söderlind (economics) and Georg von Krogh (management).
Biology and Medicine division
- Michel Gilliet, University of Lausanne, as clinician in immunology (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
- Anthony Holtmaat, University of Geneva, for integrative neurosciences and neurophysiology (takes up office on 1 April 2020)
- Brenda Kwak, University of Geneva, for cardiovascular physiology (takes up office on 1 April 2020)
- Mirjam Christ-Crain, University of Basel, for internal medicine (takes up office on 1 April 2020)
- Margitta Seeck, University of Geneva, for clinical neurosciences (takes up office on 1 April 2020)
They replace the outgoing members Cem Gabay (clinician – immunology), Andreas Lüthi (integrative neurosciences and neurophysiology), Hugues Abriel (cardiovascular physiology), Marc Y. Donath (internal medicine) and Petra Hüppi (clinical neurosciences).
Programmes division
- Rainer Wallny, ETH Zurich, for physics (takes up office on 1 March 2020)
- Nikola Biller-Andorno, University of Zurich, for history/ethics (takes up office on 1 March 2020)
They replace the outgoing members Dirk van der Marel (physics) and Susanna Burghartz (modern history).
National Research Council of the SNSF
