NRP "Advancing 3R" on animal testing: 23 projects funded
The evaluation panel of the National Research Programme "Advancing 3R - Animals, Research and Society" has selected 23 research projects from a total of 34 applications. These can now begin their work.
From 134 submitted project outlines, the evaluation panel of the National Research Programme "Advancing 3R - Animals, Research and Society" (NRP 79) recommended a total of 34 for the second evaluation phase. Out of these 34 applications, 23 research projects have now been selected.
15 projects will focus mainly on innovation, for example with a 3D cell culture to study brain tissue. 3 projects will examine implementation - how 3R methods can be more rapidly integrated into biomedical research. 5 projects are in the area of ethics and society, including an experimental investigation of moral values. There will be a second call on the topic of ethics and society. The budget of the 23 selected projects amounts to almost 15 million francs.
All 34 projects were comprehensively reviewed, on the one hand with the help of at least two external reviewers and on the other hand by two members each of the NRP 79 evaluation panel. The decisions of the panel were confirmed by the Research Council of the SNSF. Not only the scientific quality of the projects was evaluated, but also other aspects such as their practical applicability or interdisciplinarity. Now begins the research phase.
