The SNSF Scientific Image Competition 2024 is now open

Put your research in the spotlight! We are inviting researchers working in Switzerland to submit their photos and videos to the SNSF Scientific Image Competition. Deadline for submissions: 31 January 2024.

The latest edition of the SNSF Scientific Image Competition has been launched. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is inviting researchers working at a higher education institution or research institution in Switzerland or Liechtenstein to submit their photos and videos by 31 January 2024. The works must have been created after 1 January 2023.

The winning photos and videos will be exhibited at the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography from 3 to 26 May 2024.

The four categories of the competition

The works may be submitted in one of four categories:

  • Object of study
  • Locations and instruments
  • Women and men of science
  • Video loops

The jury will award one first prize of 1000 Swiss francs and several distinctions of 250 Swiss francs in each of the categories. The jury is presided over by Swiss photographer Alexander Sauer and also includes Emanuela Ascoli, head of photography and events at National Geographic France (Paris), Emmanuelle Giacometti, director of the museum L’Espace des Inventions, Patrick Gyger, director of Plateforme 10 in Lausanne, and biologist and artist Tanja Gesell (Vienna).

All of the images entered in the competition since its launch in 2017 – almost 2000 of them – are available online and may be used free of charge.
