Marie Heim-Vögtlin: 36 grants awarded to promising women researchers in 2014
In December 2014, the SNSF awarded 36 Marie Heim-Vögtlin (MHV) grants to highly qualified women researchers who had to interrupt or reduce their scientific activities due to family commitments. A total amount of 7.5 million Swiss francs was allocated.
The 36 new recipients will begin or continue their research activities in 11 Swiss institutions of higher education and research institutes. Postdoctoral researchers received 86% of the grants and doctoral students 14%. By financing a research project for up to two years, the MHV scheme facilitates the integration of women researchers in the academic environment and makes it possible for more women to pursue a scientific career while having family commitments. The SNSF counts upon the host institutions to help make the scheme a success in the long term by committing themselves to providing further financial support following the expiry of the MHV grant.
