Money follows Researcher
Continue your project abroad!
The Money follows Researcher process is aimed at researchers who move abroad and would like current SNSF funding to continue. In principle, a continuation of the project is possible in any country.
The project can either continue in Switzerland while being managed from abroad or transferred to the new location.
Participation requirements
The conditions for approval of project and career grants as well as those funded by Horizon Europe transitional measures for the MfR scheme is based on the following principles:
Projects
- The feasibility of the project must be guaranteed.
- Once the grant has been transferred abroad, no additional funding (including for inflation) or no-cost extensions will be granted.
- If the grant recipient moves to another country after the project grant has been approved but before its start, the SNSF will only fund the first year of the project.
- If the grant recipient moves to Germany or Austria before the start of the project, the SNSF will not fund the project but can, on request, transfer the evaluation to its partner agency in that country.
Careers
- The feasibility of the project must be guaranteed.
- Once the grant has been transferred abroad, no additional funding (including for inflation) or no-cost extensions will be granted.
- Whether or not the grant has already begun, career funding schemes only allow a maximum of one year of transition. Please note that funding for doctoral students’ salaries will also terminate after 12 months.
- For career grants, the salary of the grant recipient cannot be transferred or used for other purposes. It must be repaid to the SNSF.
- The ‘Money follows Researcher’ procedure cannot be applied for Postdoc.Mobility return grants.
Horizon Europe transitional measures (SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships, SNSF Starting Grants 2022-2024, SNSF Consolidator Grants, SNSF Advanced Grants)
- The feasibility of the project must be guaranteed.
- Once the grant has been transferred abroad, no additional funding (including for inflation) or no-cost extensions will be granted.
- If the project has not yet started, no MfR funding will be granted.
- Applications will only be accepted two years after the start of the grant (by definition, this excludes applications for SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships since they have a maximum duration of two years).
- For SNSF Starting Grants, please note that after the two years in question, only one year of transition is granted in accordance with the rules of the career funding schemes.
- The grant recipient's salary may not be transferred or used for other purposes. It must be repaid to the SNSF.
How To
Submission of proposals
Applications may be submitted at any time. To do so, please contact the unit responsible for the relevant funding scheme beforehand.
Evaluation procedure
The SNSF decides on a case-by-case basis how the funds can be used in Switzerland while the project is being managed from abroad, or whether they can be transferred in whole or in part to the new host institution. No appeal of the decision is possible.
