SNSF Research Council: president of division and five new members elected
The Executive Committee of the SNSF Foundation Council has elected the physicist Harald Brune as the new president of the Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences division of the Research Council. In addition, the Executive Committee elected five new members of the Research Council.
Harald Brune will begin his term as president on 1 October 2014. He is a professor at the "Institut de la Physique des Nanostructures" of EPF Lausanne and has been a member of the National Research Council since 1 January 2009.
The Executive Committee of the Foundation Council has newly elected five professors as members of the Research Council.
Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences division
- Thomas Gehrmann, Institute of Physics, University of Zurich, in the field of theoretical physics as successor to Jean-Pierre Eckmann (University of Geneva)
- Ursula Keller, Institute of Quantum Electronics, Physics Department, ETH Zurich, in the field of physics of condensed matter as successor to Jürg Osterwalder (University of Zurich)
- Christoph Heinrich, Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology, ETH Zurich, in the field of geosciences as successor to Lukas Baumgartner (University of Lausanne)
- Julianne Hollender, Environmental Chemistry, Eawag, Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, in the field of environmental sciences as successor to Michael W. I. Schmidt (University of Zurich)
Biology and Medicine division
- Beat Keller, Institute of Plant Biology, University of Zurich, in the field of plant science as successor to Jean-Pierre Métraux (University of Fribourg)
The new research councillors will take up office on 1 October 2014.
