Matthias Egger is stepping down at the end of 2024 after eight years as President of the Research Council. The search is now on for a successor likewise qualified to determine the future shape of research funding in Switzerland.

The National Research Council scientifically evaluates and selects applications submitted to the SNSF. It is responsible for defining funding policy and funding schemes and, together with the Foundation Council, for the strategic management of the SNSF.

Matthias Egger's successor can expect a 50 – 60 per cent workload with a wide range of tasks. We are looking for an innovative personality with an outstanding international reputation as a researcher. They should show a keen interest in research policy as well as having leadership experience and negotiating skills.

The four-year term of office will start on 1 January 2025; it can be extended once for four more years subject to re-election.

Applications must reach the SNSF by 15 August 2023.
