For two days in November, the spotlight will be on research on research.
At the SNSF’s Research on Research event on 28 and 29 November 2024 in Bern, researchers in the field will present their latest results and discuss national and international developments.
With research on research, the scientific community seeks to better understand its own processes and make them more effective. Such research focuses on various aspects of academia: peer review, research funding or other scientific practices. These investigations provide valuable information about the functioning of the Swiss research system.
Analysing the system helps to gather evidence that can be used to develop and test new practices. Existing practices can also be reconsidered and optimised with the help of research on research. This is an important lever for change.
In recent years, research on research has gained relevance in both the national and international context. Initiatives such as CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) are committed to improving the assessment of research and researchers and, by doing so, emphasise the importance of research on research. The SNSF is committed to the evidence-based development of its processes, criteria and strategies and is actively involved in various projects in this field. The SNSF uses the findings to improve its own funding practices.
The SNSF event
On 28 and 29 November 2024, the SNSF invites stakeholders to attend its Research on Research event at the Kursaal Bern. This is the third edition of the event. Experts in the field will present their work, present current results and discuss possible future developments in Switzerland with participants. The aim is to promote exchange, identify synergies and strengthen collaboration.
Those interested can register by 4 November 2024 at the link below. The number of participants is limited.
