AI brings hope for children suffering from metabolic disease
Big Data, advanced learning algorithms and powerful computers enable researchers to better understand severe metabolic diseases.
Cystinosis is a rare lyosomal storage disorder affecting around 1 in 100,000 to 200,000 newborns worldwide. “Children with cystinosis suffer from a devastating, multisystemic disease for which there is currently no cure,” says Olivier Devuyst of the University of Zurich. But with the help of artificial intelligence, researchers have identified a promising drug for treatment of the disease – a study funded by the SNSF.
