Brazilian-Swiss Joint Research Programme
Research cooperation with Brazil
The Brazilian-Swiss Joint Research Programme (BSJRP) is aimed at researchers in Switzerland who wish to address specific research questions together with partners in Brazil.
Joint Research Projects (JRPs) enable researchers in Switzerland to conduct a joint project together with a Brazilian partner. The projects have a duration of three years, with funding on the Swiss side amounting to a maximum of CHF 250,000 per project. The costs covered by the grants are comparable to those covered in national SNSF projects (equipment, research funds, salaries). The Brazilian scientists are supported by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP).
Details
Projects within the following thematic areas were funded:
- Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
- Water related to Environment
Researchers in the humanities and social sciences were eligible to apply, provided their research questions were related to the above-mentioned topics.
The joint call by the SNSF, the CNPq and the CONFAP included a two-phase evaluation process (pre-proposals and full proposals). The results of the first phase (pre-proposals) were communicated in March 2019. Full proposals could be submitted by invitation only. The results of the second phase (full proposals) were communicated in December 2019. There were sufficient financial resources to fund 12 projects. The SNSF covers the costs for the Swiss part of the research and the CNPq and the CONFAP the costs incurred in Brazil.
