Resubmitted applications – what's new in project funding
From 1 April 2025, the SNSF will implement a change to the submission of applications for project funding. It will now treat resubmissions the same as first-time applications.
The SNSF invests around half a billion francs a year in project funding. Researchers can submit applications in April and October. The best projects are funded by the SNSF.
The SNSF also unfortunately has to reject applications every time. However, researchers have the opportunity to revise their project and resubmit it at one of the next submission deadlines.
Ensuring equal treatment
From 1 April 2025, researchers will no longer declare such applications as resubmissions. They also will no longer have to explain in writing how they addressed the reasons for rejection in the revision of their project. With these changes, the SNSF aims to make competition between new and resubmitted applications fairer and to ensure that they are treated equally.
Of course, the SNSF still expects researchers to revise their rejected project based on the feedback provided. If it becomes apparent during the assessment that an insufficiently revised application has been submitted, the SNSF may exclude it from the evaluation process.
